Misconceptions Decoder: A Data-Driven Workshop for Primary Math Teachers

Misconceptions in math are not just errors—they are deeply ingrained misunderstandings that can persist for years. When students develop faulty mental models early on, these misconceptions snowball, making higher-level math significantly harder. Some of these errors are inevitable because deeper understanding builds over time, but many can be prevented with the right teaching approach.

How can we catch these wrong turns early and bring students back on the right path? How can we teach in ways that prevent these misconceptions from forming in the first place?

This two-session online workshop is designed to help primary school teachers (Grades 1-5) spot, understand, and correct the most persistent math misconceptions using real student data. We will work through the 10 most common misconceptions identified through large-scale ASSET assessments and provide you with practical, classroom-ready strategies to address them.
