Gifted Lab — Senior Science (Gr 7–8)
About Course
Gifted Lab Senior Science is an integrated science programme for Grade 7–8 students that builds the habits of a scientist: constructing explanations from first principles, seeing the same idea across contexts, arguing from evidence, tolerating productive confusion, and explaining complex ideas clearly.
Each 5-week module is organised around a core idea — the “trunk” — explored through experiments, observation, multiple representations, and Socratic discussion, then branched into physics, biology, engineering, and the history of ideas. Live sessions run weekly on Zoom in small cohorts.
Current module (July 2026): Patterns & Classification. Why does the periodic table have that strange shape? Why do biologists care so much about naming things? Classification isn’t just tidiness — it’s how scientists make predictions about things they’ve never seen. Students create and test their own grouping schemes, then discover how Mendeleev’s table predicted unknown elements and how biological classification reveals evolutionary relationships.
Mentor: Dr. Anusha Krishnan — a scientist-writer with a PhD in Ecology & Molecular Biology from IISc Bangalore, known for teaching students how storytelling can transform scientific understanding.
